autumnal equinox.

can you feel it, like I do?
     the whispers of harvest
tangible emotion of change and warmth

            and every year I reminisce
the red leaves that have accompanied
                     some of my best smiles

old flames in a whirlwind of new leaves
heady life, whorling in temporary motions
     when I yearned for knowledge,
it presented itself
in the shape of tempered pages,
corridors of voices
it swelled, and was my hearth

        decades could dance by
and I would waltz to its music, for my thrumb
resides in the beauty that is change
           heralded by curling smoke
          snow tipped mountains,
                   crunching leaves –

         welcome home, autumn
